Frisbie Senior Center in Des Plaines, Illinois

Frisbie Senior Center Building

An Activity Center for Northwest Suburban Older Active Adults

The Frisbie Senior Center is a drop-in activity center for older active adults living in the northwest suburbs of Chicago.  Through the Center, our membership and non-member daily users have access to a 20,000-square foot, ADA-accessible facility that offers well over 65 different program and service types – some occurring multiple times throughout the month.  Aside from a variety of social and recreational activities offered, we also strive to serve as a resource clearinghouse, connecting individuals with organizations that can provide much-needed services to address the issues facing today’s seniors.
This is the time of year to watch out for your neighbor. Falling temperatures and snow and ice are signs of the season, and can create challenges and hazards for the elderly and others in your community. While local police departments and social service agencies provide well being checks, they also look to community members to help identify potential emergencies.
Some signs that a neighbor may be in need of assistance or a well-being check:
• driveway or sidewalk not cleared of snow
• neighbors with ambulatory difficulty not leaving the house
• mail or newspapers not being picked up
• containers not being moved to the curb or picked up from the curb
• lights in the house on/off at all hours of the day
• failure to repair structural damage to the home
If you feel that a neighbor or resident may be in need of a well being visit, please contact the Des Plaines Police Department (non-emergency line) @ 847.391.5400.
