Staff

Stephen H. Samuelson, MPA (President & CEO) completed his undergraduate studies at Marquette University.  Since then, he has served in a variety of positions at Maryville Academy (a child welfare agency), Individual Advocacy Group, Inc. (a human services organization), and Mobile C.A.R.E. Foundation (a public health/medical organization).  During his tenure at these not-for-profit organizations, he gained a thorough understanding of Illinois’ Department of Children and Family Services and Department of Human Services.  In 2006, Mr. Samuelson successfully attained his Master of Public Administration degree with a not-for-profit management concentration from Roosevelt University.  He joined the Frisbie Senior Center in 2011.

Melissa Kalliantasis, MSW (Program Manager) completed her undergraduate degree at Northern Illinois University. Upon graduation, she began working at Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly where she visited lonely and isolated older adults living throughout the Chicagoland area.  In 2007, Melissa joined the Des Plaines Community Senior Center as Program Manager, and, in 2011, she successfully completed her Masters of Social Work degree.

Luanne McMillen (Assistant Program Manager) joined the Frisbie Senior Center in July of 2013.  She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Fort Wayne Bible College and comes to the Center with several years of experience in a variety of administrative and financial support functions for Northwestern University.

Miles Masek (Custodian) has over 25 years of experience as a skilled Building Engineer, and carries licenses as a Stationary Engineer, Public Pool & Spa Operator, and Universal Technician.  He has worked for a variety of companies, including the U.S. Department of Defense, University of Chicago, and Chicago Public Schools.  Miles joined the Frisbie Senior Center in March of 2012.

Deborah Nelson, CFRE (Development Coordinator) is a Certified Fund Raising Executive with a 30-year career dedicated to serving non-profits. A fourth-generation Chicagoan, Debbie led the membership programs at the Chicago History Museum, Chicago Botanic Garden and Museum of Contemporary Art. Later, she served as a consultant guiding membership organizations across the U.S. An elected official on the Arlington Heights Memorial Library board for nearly a decade, her past experience also includes directing a nearby chamber of commerce and fundraising for the North Shore Senior Center and Lutheran General Foundation. Debbie holds a B.A. degrees in English and Spanish from Lake Forest College. She joined the Frisbie Senior Center in 2017.

Sally Thomphsen (Trips Manager), came to the Center with an extensive background in retail. She served as a volunteer at the Center for many years until March 2003, when she joined the organization as Program Manager. Since that time, Sally has been integral in opening the Cumberland Café and the Once & Again Boutique. Always eager to help, she continues to represent the Frisbie Senior Center very well.
